Ration shop for refugees at Puzhal camp

CHENNAI: A ration shop will be set up at a cost of Rs.2.5 lakh for the benefit of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees staying in a camp at Puzhal, on the city’s outskirts, Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said on Saturday (05/12/2009).

Distributing television sets to 440 families in the camp and other benefits under various schemes, he said Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had also ordered the issue of driving licence to the refugees by relaxing rules. A proposal for construction of tenements at a cost of Rs.8 crore would be forwarded to the government.

The government had implemented various measures for the benefit of refugees, he said, listing the facilities being provided to them, according to an official release.
